Telecoms Rivals Hit Head to Head

I think the new M1 iPhone plans are really damn good compared to SingTel's.

At least it got Luffs and I tempted to change our phones to an iPhone!

* HELP *

We need a Santa Claus this Christmas!

Cheapest & Costliest iPhone Plans

http://digital.asiaone.com/Digital/News/Story/A1Story20091208-184599.html

THE iPhone battle will enter a red-hot tripartite phase tomorrow.

Telcos StarHub and MobileOne (M1) announced yesterday that they would be selling the iPhone here from tomorrow, breaking SingTel's 15-month monopoly on the phone.

StarHub will sell the latest model of the device, the iPhone 3G S, at no cost or up to $668.

M1 will retail the same model for free or up to $658.

The cost of the iPhone drops with more expensive subscription plans. Also, the 32GB version of the iPhone 3G S will cost more than the 16GB version.

Both telcos will also sell an older model of the phone, the iPhone 3G.

SingTel, the first telco here to offer the iPhone, started selling the older iPhone 3G in August last year. It began offering the iPhone 3G S in July, at no cost or up to $678, depending on the subscription plan.

Both newcomers have thrown in features into their plans that could hot up competition for the Apple device.

M1 is offering a 'tariff rebate' of $350 to $1,000, to be paid over 12 months, to existing iPhone users who sign up for an M1 iPhone plan.

StarHub and M1 are capping Internet surfing charges on the iPhone, so users do not have to pay beyond a certain amount even if they exceed the amount of free data provided by the two telcos' iPhone subscription plans.

The StarHub cap is at $48 per month, and M1's cap is at $36.38 per month.

StarHub said it is offering the cap to give its consumers 'complete peace of mind' when surfing the Web.

Both StarHub and M1 also have iPhone plans that offer unlimited Web surfing.

In contrast, SingTel does not have such an option. Neither does it offer a cap on Internet surfing fees in its iPhone plans.

It said it will announce revised plans 'within the next few days', for new and existing iPhone customers.

SingTel subscribers can buy the iPhone only through its iFlexi mobile-phone plans.

Mr Marc Einstein, an industry manager with market research firm Frost & Sullivan, said that StarHub and M1's plans, with caps on Web-surfing fees, 'seem to be cheaper and more flexible' than SingTel's.

But it would be easier for both firms to get existing customers using other brands to switch to the iPhone than to draw from SingTel users, because of termination fees that SingTel will impose on its users as well as more competitive iPhone plans SingTel may offer later, he said.

Entrepreneur Darryl Kang, 29, does not plan to give up his SingTel iPhone subscription yet.

'But if there's a new iPhone next year, I'll see which telco offers a better price plan and quality of service, like a reliable Internet connection, as I spend most of the time on the iPhone surfing the Internet,' he said.
