Twenty-O-Nine

As 2oo9 draws to a close, I cannot help but be sucked in the 'so-let's-recap' business. The year started off quite well with me in my new job (after 2 months of probation), and it certainly is ending quite right too because of the nice festive season. There were ups and downs throughout the whole year but I guess things really aren't that bad and I have much to be grateful for.

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 107:1 KJV)

So here’s a quick summary of what happened in 2oo9!

♥ - ♥ - ♥

January 2oo9
We started this blog back on 01 January 2009, so it will be Luffs-n-Lingz’ 1st birthday tomorrow!

February 2oo9
I remembered having so many problems trying to make Luff’s birthday a memorable one for him. Blame me on my so-not-creative brain cells but I think Luffs will never forget the Portuguese song - Right? And not forgetting the Valentine's Day lunch that Luffs has so sweetly arranged for us!

March 2oo9
The whole group of us went to Perth for Luffs’ mortar board! Lots of beautiful photos taken to capture the wonderful memories but I just realized I have not blogged about the trip. Oppies, long overdue I know but I really wonder if it will ever get done.

April 2oo9
Thank God that Luffs was offered a job with OCBC despite the economy downturn.

May 2oo9
Luffs and I went for our first bowling session (but I only sat there to watch) with Ah Pie and Martin. And I finally attended my first S13 gathering after 6 years?

June 2oo9
Luffs started his 1-month training with OCBC and made friends with a wonderful bunch of MS mates.

July 2oo9
Kenny Boy left us for Melbourne to pursue his dream and we are all glad that he is doing well so far. * thumbs up *

August 2oo9
We celebrated our first ROM-sary! I was glad Luffs put in so much effort in arranging the dinner and all the surprises (necklace + flowers). I ♥ you loads!

September 2oo9
Luffs got his mortgage specialist certification after completing all the relevant tests! Also, we went to Taiwan with some friends! Likewise, I have not blogged about it. :(

October 2oo9
October has always been my favourite month because of my birthday! I have lived a quarter of a century this year and this October was an exceptionally good month for me because Luffs and I finally bought our flat. HOORAY!

November 2oo9
Nothing significant happened this month except for the freaking accident that Maggie Jie got into while mum was away in China.

December 2oo9
As much as I love October, I like December too. Other than enjoying festive season this year, I managed to catch up with friends whom I have not seen for many years. It was my first time organizing a gathering for my ex-JC classmates but I was glad the get-together was quite a success. The dinner with the SPF gang was also something memorable because we have not seen one another for 6 years! And lastly, not forgetting the party of the year organized by Kenny Boy!

♥ - ♥ - ♥

So that was 2oo9!

2o1o will definitely be an eventful year for both Luffs and I.

No words can adequately describe the excitement in me - The eagerness to experience married life and to move into our new house with Luffs!

So goodbye 2oo9 and hello 2o1o!

The Promise 《向日葵的约定》

I am glad to have caught The Promise 《向日葵的约定》 on Channel U.

Synopsis

Born with mild intellectual disability (MID), slow in learning and often gullible, 19-year-old Shan Shan is an innocent and friendly girl. Like any teenager, Shan Shan is going through a coming of age, yearning for a special someone.

Tan Mei Juan, Shan Shan’s mother, is a single-parent mother who has raised her daughter single handedly. Extremely protective of Shan Shan, Mei Juan devises a “sunflower pact”. If she ever falls in love and the boy she loves can fulfill the conditions as laid down in the “sunflower pact”, Mei Juan will give her blessings.

In a chance encounter, Shan Shan falls in love with 19-year-old Wen Yuan who happened to be a slacker in his studies and life. Her innocence and attitude to life changed Wen Yuan. However will Wen Yuan accept a MID girl as his girlfriend? Is he the one to fulfill the “sunflower’s pact”?

Cast

Lee Shan Shan 李姗姗 : Played by Julie Tan 陈绍茵

** Julie Tan is the 1st runner up for this year's New Paper New Face! **

19-year-old Lee Shan Shan is born with mild intellectual disability with an IQ between 60-75, equivalent to that of a 9-10-year-old . A happy-go-lucky girl she brings smile to the people around her. Although slow in learning, she has a strong sense of determination to achieve her goals.

Shan Shan is naïve in many ways and hence she risked getting cheated by others from time to time. Her mother is her protector in her daily life.

Since young, Shan Shan has been introduced to sunflowers by her mum, and she has grown to love them. Her room, collectibles and tastes revolve around sunflowers. Her greatest wish is to travel to a big sunflower field with her loved one and admire the flowers.

Tan Wen Yuan 陈文远 : Played by Lawrence Wong 王冠逸

19-year-old Wen Yuan is one with boyish good looks. He comes from a medium income family but turns out to be a slacker in studies and in life. Easily disinterested in the things he does, Wen Yuan has no concrete idea of what his future holds for him.

His relationship with his dad is turbulent and his dad hated him for failing his expectations, time and again. Wen Yuan withers his time away in comics and drawing, a talent that he is quietly proud of. He keeps to himself and projects a loner image. The fact is, he craves for someone to share his life and someone to appreciate him, as he is.

Lee Mei Juan 李美娟 : Played by Lin Mei Jiao 林梅娇

38-year-old Mei Juan is a young but strong single parent mother. She raised Shan Shan single handedly.

Mei Juan suffered in love when she was young. At 13-years-old, she fell in love and at a young age of 17-year-old, she gave birth to Shan Shan. Her boyfriend disappeared and left her shortly after that.

Feeling responsible for her daughter, Mei Juan worked doubly hard, feeling all that follows in her life, her daughter’s condition and the amount of stress she has to undertake, is a retribution for her wayward behavior when she was young.

Mei Juan wanted a different life for Shan Shan. She created a bright and sunny world for her daughter, hoping to raise her “normal”, find her a normal job and to be independent. But there is one thing she will not allow her daughter to get into - falling in love.

http://featurefilm.mediacorptv.sg/featurefilm_thepromise_cast.htm

It is a simple yet sincere movie. Although the story is not likely to happen in real life, I found myself truly touched by the show in more ways than I could have imagined.

Also, not forgetting the theme song《受保护》 by new artiste Serene Koong 龚芝怡 from Funkie Monkies Productions - It is really a nice and meaningful song!

Those who have enjoyed the telemovie and song as much as I did can email Funkie Monkies Productions for the full version of the song!

Anyway, I will end of this entry with some of the 对白 that I like from the show :

"不是你太笨, 是其它人太复杂了."

"如果你能比我更爱她, 我愿意让你来作她的太阳."

"四十八分钟后的微笑."

Sweetness of A Christmas & 21st Party

Kenny had his 21st-cum-Christmas party at Changi Clubhouse (Civil Service Club) last evening.

Changi Clubhouse
2 Netheravon Road
Singapore 508503

Luffs and I were there early so I could take photos of the place before everyone started coming in.

Below shows the yummi buffet spread!

Everyone got their personalised 'table tag' and door gift!

With our lucky draw numbers!

Happy Boy was early too, so we brought him for a kiddy ride.

Here's a family photo before the party started.

Cake from Pine Garden but Luffs commented that it tasted awful.

:(

And now the usual birthday photos.

Kenny with family & relatives :

Kenny with friends :

Thank you for the effort you have put into organising this gathering, Kenny! I am sure everyone enjoyed the food and program as much as I did!

Black Berry?

If you remember, I blogged about Blu Pola back in November.

Being a loyal reader of his blog, I am pretty impressed to find this on his recent entry.

One of these berries is real, the other is made of Blu-Tack.

Can you tell which is which?

I think I can tell the difference but it is still of MUCH resemblance.

:)

S13 Class Gathering!

We FINALLY had our S13 class gathering!

Because of my ‘long disappearance’, I decided that I should organize one for the class. I was glad the majority turned up and I am sure everyone who was present had a gooooooood time.

Yue Qun and Yi Xing, the newly wed has kindly opened up their house for us! Luffs and I love the simplicity of their house - It is nicely renovated and the whole place is so cosy.

Now let the photos do the talking!

Group Photo 1

The girls!

The boys!

The food!

Group Photo 2

I ♥ this photo to the max!

Ah Pie and I took so long before we decided on buying the Braun MultiGourmet Food Steamer for Yue Qun and Yi Xing.

Hope you guys like the gift, yah?

Anyway, we all left after the opening-present ceremony. Luffs and I were rushing off to the airport to receive Mummy Sng and Kenny Boy Man back from Melbourne!

So... Ah Pie, you organize the next one. Yah?

SPF Gathering!

I met Shirlynn, Michelle and Nelson when I was working my part-time at SPF and I am soooooo happy that we finally met up again after 3 long years! We can still remember our last dinner date at Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill. This time we chose MOF @ My Izakaya - The outlet at Marine Square.

MOF @ My Izakaya (Marina Square)
6 Raffles Boulevard #02-138E
Marina Square
Singapore 039594
Tel: 6334 2202

Everyone was so hungry when the food was served, so I only managed to take photos of the sides.

Luffs and Kenny (Shirlynn's boyfriend) joined us and we had a good time catching up with one another and laughing at the good old days. Hehe...

I had a bad hair day but that did not stop me from taking our group photo.

Haha!

Early Christmas Lunch

Maggie Jie decided to treat the family to an early Christmas lunch since Uncle does not need to work today. We decided on Dian Xiao Er 店小二 since both of us have not eaten there before!

Dian Xiao Er
53 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3
#B2-02 Ang Mo Kio Hub
Tel: 6484 2268

The prices were kind of steep, but the food was deliciously excellent! Their good service was something worth mentioning too.

Anyway, here’s what we ordered.

Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup

Poached Spinach with Century and Salted Egg

Hot Plate Tofu with Minced Meat and Egg

Silver Cod Fish in Superior Soy Sauce

Seafood Fried Rice with XO Sauce

It was photo taking time after makan-ing!

Uncle & Mum

Maggie Jie and I spent so much time taking photos that it seemed like we took a million shot!

And I shall end this post with our best shot for the day!

Haha... Nice?

A Wedding & A Birthday Party

I have never attended any Indian wedding before and thought that it would be interesting to attend Saro’s at SIA Group Sports Club. On the other hand, Luffs has not seen Saro before too so we don’t know why we were invited. Haha… But I guess we were invited because Saro is Stanley’s sister and Stanley is Luffs’ buddy?

Luffs and I were there early so we took the chance to take photos!

The whole event took so long to start - By the time the buffet started, it was about time for us to leave for Elijah’s 2nd birthday party! We took a quick bite before going off because Luffs had craving for Indian food!

It was almost 9pm when we got to Elijah’s party. It has been so long since we last saw him!

Look how he has grown!

Isn't he cute?

Somehow, I feel he really looks like his daddy!

Till We Meet Again

Time flies!

Mahesh has been in Singapore for about 10 days and is returning to Adelaide with his girlfriend. Luffs and I have just returned from sending them off at the airport.

Here's a photo of the buddies, but missing Affendi and Nicholas in the photo!

Mahesh with girlfriend + Stanley with girlfriend

Haha... The guys were playing a fool behind their girlfriends.

Finally a decent one!

Mahesh opening his gift from Stanley!

By the way, am I the last person to know that they have a Go Kart circuit in the Basement 2 carpark of Changi Airport Terminal 3?

And lastly, a photo of the huge Christmas "bell" in Terminal 3 before I end this post.

Hmm... I took this photo with my point-and-shoot camera.

Quite nice right?
