Soccer @ The Cage

Accompanied Luffs to The Cage for his soccer game with his group of buddies - We were late, but I hope Luffs enjoyed himself after more than 6 months of being soccer-less (because of his finger injury).

The Cage is Singapore’s first indoor soccer stadium!

The Cage
38 Jalan Benaan Kapal
Singapore 399635

(Information taken from http://www.thecage.com.sg/about.htm
)

The Cage is run by We Wanted to be Footballers Pte Ltd (WWTBF).

“ The company is dedicated to the serious business of fun football for the recreational player or the “Sunday-morning-kickabout”. Football is the country’s most popular game and rightfully so. It is the most democratic of games – where economic or social standing really don’t matter at all. And the simplicity of the excitement delivered – camaraderie of a team, getting control of the ball, speed, trickery, power - cannot be matched by other games.

Land scarce Singapore only seems to be able to the competitive footballer. The recreational player eventually turns to golf or tennis. WWTBF will change all of that. We will provide comfortable facilities that will deliver a new brand of football to all. ”

It costs $50 to book the place for an hour on weekdays (before 6pm) and $90 per hour for weekdays (after 6pm) and weekends / public holiday - Not that cheap, but I guess soccer players will not mind paying for an indoor place to enjoy their game.

I had to entertain myself when the boys were playing, so I went around the place to take some photos. Sad to say, all the photos suck because I don’t know how to use Luffs’ DSLR. Hahaha!

Only this looks presentable - The painted wall at Pitch 3 with the counter in front where the staff will be seated.

I think Luffs did not really like the idea of playing soccer indoor. He had a very claustrophobic feeling when he was playing (and wanted to vomit) - Maybe he is used to playing soccer outdoor and not in an enclosed space like The Cage. Some of the other boys felt the same too.

Here’s a group photo to end the night with… Multi-racial friendship, yah?

Nights, everyone!

Feisty Princess Charmaine

This is Ah Pie's friend's niece - Charmaine Lim.

Although I do not know her personally, it breaks my heart to hear of such news - I am sure everyone who knows about this will feel the same.

Charmaine is only 3 years 7 months old and has just been diagnosed with 4th stage Neuroblastoma. She will be starting on her chemotherapy today.

(Extracted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroblastoma)

** Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid cancer in childhood and the most common cancer in infancy, with an annual incidence of about 650 new cases per year in the US. Close to 50 percent of neuroblastoma cases occur in children younger than two years old. ]It is a neuroendocrine tumor, arising from any neural crest element of the sympathetic nervous system or SNS. A branch of the autonomic nervous system, the SNS is a nerve network that carries messages from the brain throughout the body and is responsible for the fight-or-flight response and production of adrenaline or epinephrine. Its solid tumors, which take the form of a lump or mass, commonly begin in one of the adrenal glands, though they can also develop in nerve tissues in the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis. Esthesioneuroblastoma, also known as olfactory neuroblastoma, is believed to arise from the olfactory epithelium and classification remains controversial. Since it is not a sympathetic nervous system malignancy it is a distinct clinical entity not to be confused with neuroblastoma.

The cause of neuroblastoma is unknown, though most physicians believe that it is an accidental cell growth that occurs during normal development of the adrenal glands.

Neuroblastoma is one of the rare human malignancies known to demonstrate spontaneous regression from an undifferentiated state to a completely benign cellular appearance. **

Life is simply too fragile and it shows how much we need the Lord!

People Need The Lord

Everyday they pass me by,
I can see it in their eyes.
Empty people filled with care,
Headed who knows where?

On they go through private pain,
Living fear to fear.
Laughter hides their silent cries,
Only Jesus hears.

People need the Lord,
People need the Lord.
At the end of broken dreams,
He's the open door.
People need the Lord,
People need the Lord.
When will we realize,
People need the Lord?

We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right.
What could be too great a cost
For sharing Life with one who's lost?

Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear.
They must hear the Words of Life
Only we can share.

People need the Lord,
People need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams,
He's the open door.
People need the Lord,
People need the Lord.
When will we realize that we must give our lives,
For people need the Lord.

People need the Lord.

Far Far Away

I wish I can go to a far away place where no-one knows me…

Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (King James Version)

I know that I can trust Him in every situation - Big or small!

I know He will take care of us.

A song I used to sing when I was younger just came to my mind...

" I cast all my cares upon you
I lay all of my burdens down at your feet
And any time I don't know what to do

I will cast all my cares upon you "

Dinner @ Soup Restaurant

I had dinner with Luffs and his family today - Soup Restaurant @ United Square.

Soup Restaurant
101 Thomson Road #B1-10
United Square
Tel: 6254 0400

We ordered 1 of their signature dishes - Samsui Ginger Chicken.

A traditional Samsui dish consumed by the Samsui women in Chinatown. Due to their low income, the Samsui Ginger Chicken was only consumed once a year, during the Chinese New Year. Chicken was steamed without much seasoning after which, dipped in ginger sauce before consumption. The ginger sauce is a fragrant and tasty compliment to the chicken. Ginger and sesame oil, as believed by the Chinese, removes excess wind from the body. You may wrap the chicken in lettuce to achieve that crunch when you bite into the popular Samsui Ginger Chicken.

Dessert was settled at Ben & Jerry’s.

I found a new flavour that I like. I used to only eat the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour but the Cake Batter is equally yummi. MUST TRY!

The Pink Panther 2

3rd movie of the year - Luffs and I caught The Pink Panther 2 last evening! I did not watch Part 1, but Luffs commented that the first one was better.

The story goes like this :-

(Synopsis taken from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0838232/synopsis
)

Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) the legendary French Officer of the Law, who single-handedly saved the priceless Pink Panther Diamond, has been working outside the museum where the diamond is on display writing parking tickets for the last 6 months. Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese) assigned this duty to his bumbling and inept police officer to get him out of his hair. Recently, treasures from around the world have been stolen by the Tornado, and an international dream team of detectives is being assembled to capture him. Chief Inspector Dreyfus is ordered to assign Clouseau to the dream team. As soon as Clouseau joins the team, the Pink Panther Diamond is stolen by the Tornado. Now Clouseau must not only capture the Tornado, but save the diamond again.

The Dream Team

Somehow I managed to keep myself awake throughout the whole movie - An achievement for me! *applauds* Maybe because it is a comedy and I like the many expressions that Inspector Clouseau portrayed in the movie.

World Grains Trade Summit

I just returned to office today after attending a 2-day conference (World Grains Trade Summit) at Goodwood Park Hotel. This conference was the first of such event that I have attended and I really enjoyed the experience. I had the opportunity of meeting different people in the agri-commodities industry and hear their views of the business during this financial crunch.

Below shows what we were provided during the conference. The most important item is of course the Polo sweets which helped to keep Alex and I awake. OPPZ!

Other than the talks, the yummy food served during lunch / tea breaks shouldn’t be forgotten too! Attending conference really makes me grow fat. Hahaha!

The 2 days' lunch were sponsored by Glencore and Concordia. I was too pai seh to take photos of the food we had because there were so many delegates around.

Bye Bye Coral Spring

18 February 2009 - Today's our HDB appointment day!

Luffs and I were supposed to go down to HDB to choose a unit at Coral Spring, but we decided to give it a miss after much consideration.

[1] The remaining units left for us to choose weren't very fantastic.

[2] We do not want to rush into it because we were not particularly in love with Seng Kang - Need to take LRT!

[3] We still prefer Punggol because it will be more developed in future.

Really hope we won't regret not going for the appointment.

Anyway, wish us luck in our future balloting(s)!

The Day I Fall In Love

Time flies!

It has been 6 months since Luffs and I exchanged our wedding vows at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on 18 August 2008.

This was our march-in song that day.

♥♥♥

The Day I Fall In Love
(Dolly Parton & James Ingram)

Just an ordinary day
Started out the same old way
Then I looked into your eyes and knew
Today would be a first for me
The day I fall in love

On the day I fall in love
Sky will be a perfect blue
And I'll give my heart forever more
To someone who is just like you
The day I fall in love

People all say love is wonderful
That the bells will ring
The birds will sing
The skies will open
I wonder where's that great big symphony
Roll over Beethoven
Won't you play with me

And I'll never promise to be true to anyone
Unless it's you
Unless it's you
The day I fall in love

Just an ordinary day
Started out the same old way
Then I looked into your eyes and knew
Today will be a first for me
A first for me
The day I fall in love
I know you'll be there
Ooh... I know...
The day I fall in love

Valentine's Day Surprise!

I had a good Valentine’s Day this year - Better than last year I would say and Luffs should know why. Hahaha!

14.02.09 (Saturday)

Luffs surprised me by arranging our lunch at Flutes at the Fort although I told him we can do away with the Valentine’s Day meal since we only celebrated his birthday one week ago.

I totally appreciated what he has planned although many people will probably say dinner would be a better choice. [Thank you, my love!]

Flutes at the Fort
Fort Canning Park
Entrance through the Singapore Philatelic Museum’s carpark at 23B Coleman Street

Flutes at the Fort is situated on the picturesque green slope at the Hill Street end of Fort Canning Park. Housed in a beautiful black and white bungalow which was built in 1908, it served as the old Fire Chiefs’ home. The Central Fire Station is clearly visible from the veranda and it isn’t hard to imagine how the Fire Chiefs of old stayed operationally ready all the time.

(Photos taken from http://www.flutesatthefort.com.sg/index.php)

They had a special menu for Valentine’s Day and I loved the food they served that day.

The juices we ordered - Pineapple for me & orange for Luffs.

13.02.09 (Friday)

Luffs and I finally met up with Ah Pie and Martin for our JB seafood feast after talking about it for months! They have been together for 4 years, but it is the first time I met Martin. Ah Pie named this our Valentine's Day Double Date. This girl was so excited that she started counting down from the beginning of the week. HAHAHA!

We left for JB at about 9.15pm and there was a slight jam at the Woodlands Checkpoint but that did not dampen our happy mood.

As usual, we went to the Petronas Station at Larkin to pump CNG before heading to Taman Sentosa for our seafood dinner / supper. We were dead hungry by the time we got to the makan place and were so glad that the food did not take too long to be served.

2 Must-Order Dishes

Ah Pie is one BIG fan of fried man tou!

One piece of the stingray is without chilli - Especially for Ah Pie!

Delicious Baby Squid

Luffs ♥ sweet & sour pork!

♥ Happy Valentine’s Day ♥

If I could have just one wish, I would wish to wake up everyday to ...

The sound of your breath on my neck,

The warmth of your lips on my cheek,

The touch of your fingers on my skin.

Happy Valentine’s Day, My Love!

Love is ...

Not it's your fault, but I'm sorry

Not where are you, but
I'm right here

Not how could you, but
I understand

Not I wish you were, but I'm thankful you are

Thank you for loving me the way you do!

Quote of the Day

Someone sent this to me through email ...

******************

Quote of the Day

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater.

If you give her a sperm, she will give you a baby.

If you give her a house, she will give you a home.

If you give her groceries, she will give you a meal.

If you give her a smile, she will give you her heart.

She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her.

So if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit.

******************

HAHAHA!

Do you agree?

正月十八

It is Grandma’s death anniversary today according to the lunar calendar although the date should be 24 February on the English one. Grandma followed the lunar calendar for everything when she was alive - Even for her birthday!

Time flies! Grandma left us one year ago and we all miss her dearly. This one year has been a difficult period, especially for my uncle who has been very close to Grandma. She stayed with him and his family for as long as I can remember.

Maggie Jie and I used to visit Grandma every week when we were yonuger - Because of this reason, we were much closer to Grandma as compared to our other cousins and she doted on us. Both of us will always look forward to going to Grandma’s house - Grandma was a great cook! We loved the kuehs and rice dumplings that she used to make when her eyesight was still ok.

Grandma is one tough nut too! She loved to watch WWF - She could just sit in the living room and watch the whole day! Also, not forgetting the monthly Crime Watch on Channel 8. I will always get mum to call Grandma whenever Crime Watch is showing on TV and I have been doing the same till today even though Grandma has left us.

The fond memories of my dearest Grandma will always be with me.

Thank you, Grandma!

We miss you and you will always be remembered.

(I don't have Grandma's photo in this computer - Will put it in when I have one.)

Luffs' Birthday Celebrations

Luffs is one lucky boy!

He has 3 birthday celebrations in
a row - from 06 to 08 Feb!

HAHAHA~

08.02.09 (Sunday)

We had lunch at Kyoto Sabo Ajitei 京都茶房味亭 @ Plaza Singapura after our church service. Kyoto Sabo Ajitei is located right beside Ajisen Ramen on Level 2 and it serves a wider variety of Japanese food - Ranging from ramen, sushi, sashimi, bento, don, ala-carte orders and sweet treats. Maggie Jie brought us there because she wanted to give Luffs a treat for his birthday.

And guess what?! We met Juu there with Sam and Wei Wei. Oh well, guess Singapore is really that small...

Kyoto Sabo Ajitei
68 Orchard Road #02-01
Plaza Singapura

We ordered the following (I forgot to take down the names of the desserts) :-

Beef Sukiyaki Kaminabe Set
**beef changed to pork**

Scallop Shio Ramen

Spinach Bacon Omurice

Potato Mentai Cheese

Tonpeiyaki

Dessert 01

Dessert 02

Orange juice @ $1 per cup
(with any dessert ordered)

We did a little shopping after lunch before heading home.

Luffs’ birthday celebration ended with a ride on the Singapore Flyer and Popeye dinner thereafter. This was our second time there and both rides were FREE! Hahaha~ The first ride we had was in the day, so we made this a night ride to enjoy the night scenery.

Luffs’ Birthday Dinner

It is only the 3rd year I am celebrating Luffs’ birthday with him, but seems like I have already ran out of ideas on how to surprise him. Oh well, blame it on my so-not-creative brain juices~ HAHAHA!

My surprise for Luffs’ was that I’ve actually reserved a place to dine at Brazil Churrasco (Gillman Village). He has always wanted to try Mediterranean food, but I remembered it to be Brazilian food. Oh well! Better than nothing right? Anyway, some online research brought me to Brazil Churrasco. I have chosen its Gillman Village outlet over the Sixth Avenue one because I believe the ambience there would be better for such an occasion. I am so glad I made that choice… Luffs likes the place - The atmosphere / ambience / service / food!

Brazil Churrasco (Gillman Village)
5 Lock Road Gillman Village
Singapore 108933

Buffet price: $42++

Photos taken off their website
Since opening in Singapore in 1994, Brazil Churrasco has served more than a million customers in its restaurants in Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia. It serves decent cuts of beef, chicken, lamb, fish, ham and sausage, prepared and cooked in the Brazilian Churrascaria way. This place not only serves meat, but it also has a salad bar which is a treat to vegetarians! The salad bar has both cooked and raw, hot and cold vegetables spread across a huge counter - It is good as a meal on its own or it can be a starter to your main meal.

The place opens at 6.30pm, so we waited outside since we were early. Luffs took the opportunity to take some photos since it was our first time there.

We did not take alot of photos that night because we were too busy eating. Below are only the few types of meat we had. Luffs and I tried all the meat they served except for CHICKEN HEART. Hahaha...

Grilled pineapple... It's yummi!

Photos of the birthday boy!
2nd surprise for the night - A slice of chocolate fudge cake with the staff at Brazil Churrasco singing a birthday song to Luffs in Portuguese. They sang so loud that I had a good laugh at Luffs' SHOCKED face! I think I would have felt SUPER pai seh if I were in his shoes. *blush*

Parabéns pra você

So please don’t do this to me next time… Hahaha!

06.02.09 (Friday)

The 1st birthday dinner for Luffs was at Hi Sshou Japanese Restaurant with Mummy Doris.

Hi Sshou Japanese Restaurant
93 Pasir Ris Drive 3 #01-02
Pasir Ris Elias Community Club
Tel: 6581 3637

Interiors of Hi Sshou
(Yes, the whole place was that empty!)

Its a-la-carte menu is at $29.90+ for adults and $24.90+ with a student pass (only 10% service charge and no GST). There are more than 80 items on the menu to choose from and a lot of them are really good! The servings are pretty reasonable, so it will be good to go in a group to enjoy the wide range of food on the menu.

Time for some yummilicious photos! These photos are taken by Luffs with the new lens I bought for him.

That's the end of Luffs' 3-day birthday celebration. Maybe I should not say 'celebration', but anyway I hope Luffs enjoyed himself this birthday.

I ♥ You
