Happy Mother's Day

We had our Mother’s Day lunch at Noble House Restaurant 金玉满堂 this afternoon.

Maggie Jie and I picked this place because we knew that mum will prefer Chinese food and they had a very attractive ala carte buffet lunch for $33.80 / $39.80 / $46.80. We chose the cheapest one which is inclusive of one complimentary serving of braised shark’s fin with shredded abalone and dried seafood in supreme broth and a longevity bun each (Mother’s Day special).

Noble House Restaurant

Dad was working, so only 4 of us went - Mum, Maggie Jie, Luffs and I. We were very early, so the restaurant was not as packed. UIC building has an old and dingy looking but the restaurant is a total contrast. On the whole, we were not disappointed. I like how "old school" Noble House looks - louvered windows, mockups of shophouse fronts on the upper walls, and high angled ceilings. Natural light (from the windows) came muted from the left side so the whole ambience is quite natural and "clean".

The Mother’s Day menu is the same as the normal days’ except for the difference in prices. There were a total of 53 dishes (including desserts) for us to choose from, but we were filled to the max even before we could reach 25 dishes.

Below are some of the dishes we tried.

Steamed
Steamed Turnip Cake Enriched with Preserved Meat
Steamed Siew Mai with Crab Roe
Steamed Seafood Dumplings with Spanish
Steamed Chicken Claws with Black Pepper
Barbecued Pork Buns (Char Siew Bao)

Fried & Baked
Deep-fried Vegetarian Spring Rolls
Deep-fried Prawn Dumplings with Mayonnaise

Barbecued / Roast
Noble House Barbecued Meat Platter
The House Special Roast Chicken
Hot and Sour Century Egg

Soup
Double-boiled Pigeon Soup Served in Bamboo Tube

Seafood
Steamed Sea Bass with Garlic & Soy Sauce
Salmon Sashimi
Deep-fried Prawns with Crispy Oats
Sautéed Sliced Fish with Ginger and Onion
Fried Egg with Shrimps

Vegetables & Beancurd
Wok-fried Baby Kai Lan with Garlic

Meat
Wok-fried Venison and Cockles with Ginger and Onions
Italian Style Deep-fried Chicken

Dessert
Chilled Herbal Jelly with Honey
Chilled Mango Pudding
Chilled Honeydew with Sago

Overall, the lunch with ok but mum wasn’t in the best of her mood today. Oh well, hope everything will be back to normal soon.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
