Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat

天外天 (鸿记) 潮洲鱼头炉
(Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat)
1383 Serangoon Road
Tel: 6292 9982

天外天 is located just besides PIE at the Upper Serangoon road exit (near Serangoon Broadway). If you are taking train, then stop at Potong Pasir MRT on the North-East line.

There is no ambience to talk about because 天外天 is just a typical zi-char stall in a normal coffee shop. However, this place is so popular that they have seats in the coffee shop and at the back alley as well.

As usual, all of them camera shy and no-one wanted to take photos with me other than Maggie Jie and Luffs. Hahaha! But Luffs looked so tired in the photos!

This is 天外天’s famous fish head steamboat! They have two types of fish to choose from, the white promfet and the red groupa. The soup was full of vegetables, yam and of course fish. Also, the soup was yummilicious and you can topped it up for free!

The sweet and sour pork ribs were good - Not as hard as those I ate elsewhere - In fact, they are pretty tender. The overall taste was good as well!

Fried prawn sauce chicken has always been Luff’s favourite dish and the ones we had at 天外天 were pretty decent.

The sambal cuttlefish kangkong was nothing special but the taste was not too bad since I am a fan of cuttlefish! But some of them found it too spicy.

The prawn roll was typical and very similar to those that I have had. Grinded pork, prawns and water chestnut were used as the fillings and this can easily score a few notches higher if the fillings weren’t that finely grinded though it was still quite delicious.

The tofu prawn seemed a little strange because they added sambal to it but nevertheless the spicy taste was quite refreshing. I initially told that my uncle ordered chilli crab. Haha!

The sea cucumber with duck took so long to come and we were already filled to the brim when it was served. Haha! So we had to tabao the remainder home.

The total damage came up to $150 for 13 of us which we felt was pretty reasonable.
