Workshop @ Orchard Hotel

Nowadays, my life only resolves around office and home. Work has been so busy and this explains the lack of updates on this space.

Oh well, I am glad to be able to complete a 2-day workshop held at Orchard Hotel
.

It was an Introductory Grains Course of the US Ag Commodities Risk Management Workshop Series organized by ASA International Marketing.

This workshop covered the fundamentals of the world agricultural market, including production agriculture and processing; and the mechanics of hedging, basis and spreads.

I have always been interested to learn more about futures and options, so I found this workshop pretty interesting. We learnt through a range of scenarios, the practice and benefits of rolling hedges, calculating the cost of carry and carry charges in futures, as well as futures markets delivery to the cash market. We were also given a review of options with the facilitator showing us some practical examples of options strategies.

And not forgetting the buffet lunch that we get to enjoy at Orchard Cafe!

Photo taken from http://www.millenniumhotels.com.sg/orchardhotelsingapore/

I have been to Orchard Cafe for a couple of times since my cousin works there as a chef, but I have never tried their buffet lunch before. Actually, the spread for lunch is pretty much the same as their dinner.

For those who are interested, remember to make reservations early. Yah?

Lunch
Adult S$36.00 / Child S$20.00 (Mondays to Fridays)
Adult S$39.00 / Child S$22.00 (Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays)

Dinner
Adult S$42.00 / Child S$23.00 (Sundays to Thursdays)
Adult S$46.00 / Child S$25.00 (Fridays, Saturdays & Eve of Public Holidays)

I Am So Lucky!

I received a letter from Singapore Women's Weekly when I was away in Taiwan. To my surprise, I won something from their June 2009 lucky draw! I seriously do not recall entering any lucky draw but am happy that I have won a System Professional Repair Line Hamper (worth S$112)!

I found out from Google that System Professional is a hair care brand under Wella. Apparently, this brand is a partner of many exclusive and high-end salons.

This is what I saw on their website :

" The secret behind a high-end hair care range is its ability to address each hair and scalp issue with personalized solutions. Whether you want your hair voluminous, smoothed-out, shiny or curly - System Professional offers systems of products that fit you and your hair’s individual care needs perfectly. "

Their products seem good and Maggie Jie offered to collect the prize for me.

* Thank you, Jie! *

1.2 Repair Shampoo
Ensures an even structure
Guarantees good combability
Restores resistance and shine

2.2 Repair Cream
Differences in the structure are balanced out
Gives the hair new resistance
Makes the hair feelably smooth

3.2 Repair Mask
Repairs hair up to 100% after one application
Repairs, nourishes and protects the hair on the inside and outside
Protects hair from further damage

This range of products should repair our hair up to 100% after 1 application.

So let's see if it works!

Back From Taiwan

我们回来了!

The weather in Taiwan was so bad that Luffs and I had a good tan when we were there.

Pardon me for the ugly photo below. I merely wanted to show how hot the weather was in Taiwan - Worse than staying in Singapore lah!

See the difference in the colour tone?

Anyway, I hope I can update soon because my Perth entries are still half done.

Anyone willing to help me collage my photos for free?

* HELP *

Ma Maison

It is Maggie Jie's birthday today and she treated us to dinner at Ma Maison earlier this evening.

Ma Maison (Bugis)
200 Victoria Street
#02-51 Bugis Junction

The wonderful thing was that we were entitled to a 20% discount because of the uchiwa (fan) Maggie Jie received when she and Harald visited Ma Maison last week.

Sadly, both Maggie Jie and I only took pictures of the food! So no family photos taken. Oppies~

* Jie, remember to take 'human' photos during my birthday wor! *

Anyway, here's what we had :

This dish was yummi but I felt quite guilty when eating these escargots.

We ordered a chicken dish to share with Mum while the seabass was for Uncle.

Look at the smoke coming out from the hamburger steak! Actually the paella (rice with seafood) was meant to served two but the portion was abit too small. However, this dish is nice. The rice has got seafood taste!

Maggie Jie felt that the curry was spicy but I thought otherwise. Also, do not be fooled by the pizza photo! The size of the pizza was actually very small.

That's all folks.

Hope Maggie Jie enjoyed her birthday, yah?

Mine is coming real soon too - HOORAY!

Blessed Birthday, Jie Jie!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MAGGIE (AKA JIE JIE)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Thank you for being such a sweet and encouraging sister!

But don't always act like you are my younger sister when you are supposed to be elder.

Also please stop rubbing your nose like there is no tomorrow.

♥ ♥ ♥

However, it is your act-cute ways and sometimes-irritating-and-annoying actions that make you all the more special and lovable to me.

Enjoy your special day!

Time Doesn't Heal

Time doesn’t. All that Time does is make it more distant, put more space between you and what happened. It doesn’t heal anything. I don’t know how or what does the healing, but it isn’t Time.

Xin Chào, Vietnam!

It was a last minute decision last Friday which bought me to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at the beginning of this week.

31.08.09 (Monday)

My colleague and I took the earliest flight SQ 172 on Monday and got to Vietnam at 8.40am (Vietnam time). The flight was pretty smooth going except for the turbulence in between and the not-so-delicious breakfast served on board.

Somehow Ho Chi Minh City reminds me of Bangkok - Super jammed roads, noisy honking, ‘swamp’ of motorcycles everywhere etc. The taxi ride to Sheraton Saigon Hotel was not very pleasant because of the jam and I totally dislike the smell of taxis! *puke*

I guess this entry will be pretty short with some photos since this was meant to be a business trip and I do not wish to talk about work here.

Haha… Anyway, it’s photo time now!

Something I always do when I travel - Photos of my hotel room.

The curtains can be drawn opened and closed with a remote control!

I ♥ the bathroom!

Had a quick lunch at KFC before meeting one of our customers - The KFC portion looked so pathetic lah!

Prasad and I went to the famous Ben Thanh Market before heading back to our hotel to wash up and prepare for dinner.

That's Prasad inside the market.

Dinner was with our broker at this growing Vietnamese rice noodles (Pho) chain in Vietnam called PHO24.

01.09.09 (Tuesday)

The whole day was spent outside, travelling from one distinct to another to meet people. The morning traffic was madness!

We met a few people before having lunch at The Sushi Bar. I did not take any photo of the hot soba I ate but the photos below were taken off their website to show you the place.

http://www.sushibar.com.vn/

Prasad had a dinner appointment, so I met up with our broker. She bought me to Mitau, a restaurant serving Vietnamese Hue cuisine. Vietnamese people regard this cuisine as the best in the country because it was food for the Emperor in the ancient days.

Click
here to find out more about Hue cuisine!

02.09.09 (Wednesday)

It was kind of a free-and-easy ½ day for us since we did not have to meet anyone and our flight SQ 173 back to Singapore was in the afternoon.

I decided to take a walk around the hotel area and see how Vietnamese people spend their public holiday (02 Sep is Vietnam’s National Day).

I spotted MOF!

Some exhibition going on outdoor?

I don't know what buildings are these!

MOTORCYCLES everywhere!

Somehow I managed to find my way to Ben Thanh Market, so I ended up getting coffee powder for Dad + sunglasses for Maggie Jie + some fridge magnets as souvenir.

That’s all for my Vietnam loot and I left for the airport after my luggage was packed.

Tạm biệt, Vietnam!

Anyway, I am so glad this 3D2N trip has come to an end.

As much as I enjoy travelling, I hate it when I need to go on business trips because I will be so far away from Luffs. Although the trips that I have gone on so far are only short ones, the feeling of missing someone close to your heart isn’t very nice.
