Bumming No More On the morning of 28th April 09, I received a call from HR OCBC Bank requesting me to go for an interview on 29th April 09. My initial feeling was more of surprised than happy. Why so? I only submitted the application the day before, together with a small write up on how I could leverage on my past experience working in the bank to help succeed in this particular role that I applied for. Oh my, they are efficient! ------------------------------------------ 29th April 09 came and my interview was scheduled at 1.30pm. Having the habit of wanting to be punctual, I set off from my house at 11.45am for OCBC Building @ 65 Chulia Street. Actually wanting to be punctual was 1 point, the other was because I wanted to find an open air parking so I could use coupons instead of paying from my cashcard. Damn, it is expensive parking in town! Upon reaching OCBC Building at about 12.15pm, I took a turn into Philips Street and well well LUCKY me! A vehicle was just about to leave that parking lot. Good for me because I need not fret over waiting too long for a parking space. I quickly parked my vehicle and took some time to relax myself in the car. (Sheesh, outside was HOT!) That was when I texted Lingz telling her I was lucky to get a parking lot without waiting. Her reply reads "Lady luck is on ur side... =) Chill, dun b nervous wor. Jia you!" (exact message). Concurring with her message, I too feel perhaps luck was on my side. Pardon me if this gets too boring. 1pm, time for me to go for the interview although my interview was at 1.30pm. There were already 3 other candidates there for the interview when I reached the HR Department. I thought to myself, "Sheesh, I've gotta compete with them". Soon, it was my turn. Seated down were 2 interviewers and it all begun… Trust me, it was one of those few times where I actually felt nervous over an interview. True enough, the questions in the interview were not anything I expected. The questions asked by the male interviewer could not be answered with 'going around the bush' or indirect answers and his expression / questions reminded me of Simon Cowell! After a grueling 30 minutes, the interview was finally over and I was requested to wait outside. Walking out of the interview rooms, I realized all the other interviewees had left the premise. While waiting, I sat comfortably on the sofa and pondered on how I answered those questions - Whether they were correctly answered or did I say anything for the interviewers to minus points. A quick 5 minutes later, the male interviewer walked out presumably heading for the toilet. As he passed me, he asked "Kelvin, do you feel lucky today?" and I replied "Err… Ya, kind of… Haha!" - Like what kind of reply right? The female interviewer then called for me to enter into another discussion room. She (the interviewer) said, "After discussing with XXX, we immediately find that you possess the right qualities that we are looking for. Kelvin, the letter of offer is now on the table. Are you willing to accept it?" I was like woooooo what values do I have to make you make a decision so hastily? I did not immediately accept the offer as I felt it was only right of me to discuss it with Lingz since we are now husband and wife. I actually do not believe in having luck or doing certain things to boost one's luck but in this particular instance, everything might have happened because of luck? [1] I'm lucky to have a supportive wife. [2] I'm lucky to have very supporting families. [3] I'm lucky to have been chosen / picked for an interview. [4] I'm lucky to have found that parking lot. [5] I'm lucky to have emerged winner amongst the 3 other interviewees. [6] Lastly, I'm lucky to have found a job. With a job + income, I can now save for my Chinese customary marriage. Hope 2010 is still within reach! Wednesday, April 29, 2009 @ 11:40 PM
Ralph Lauren Tote Maggie Jie bought a Ralph Lauren Tote for me - It was the same one that I wanted to buy for myself last month, but somehow I did not get it in the end. It was indeed a pleasant surprise! Thank you so much, Jie~ *grinz* Tuesday, April 28, 2009 @ 12:00 PM

Dinner @ AquaMarine Uncle Bernard has kindly invited Luffs and I to join him with his family and friends at dinner, so I finally had the chance to dine at AquaMarine @ Marina Mandarin Hotel. AquaMarine Marina Mandarin Singapore, Level 4 6 Raffles Boulevard Tel: 6845 1111 / 6845 1000 AquaMarine serves a resplendent buffet spread of really fresh seafood & international cuisines. The lovely ambience at the restaurant makes it even better! The 10 of us had the biggest table in the restaurant, so that made us kind of the “centre of attraction”. Haha! Luffs and I lost count of how much oysters we had, but they were so good - FAT & FRESH! I had my oysters with Tabasco while Luffs squeezed some lemon over them together with Tabasco. That’s me enjoying my raw food when Yun Ru came and offered me some chickie and duckie! On top of that, the freshly-cut sashimi had that unique and firm texture - Some seriously fresh stuff, yah? I should have taken more sashimi but I had to leave my stomach for other food! Not forgetting the sushi(s), they were good too. The Korean section served quite delicious cooked food as well. There were more stuff but I did not manage to take photos of everything. After the mains, you might be a little spoilt for choices as they have quite a big range of desserts. I had no idea where to begin, but decided to just have the raspberry sorbet since I was too full to eat anything else. Oppies! Oh ya, I tried the chocolate butter pudding too. It’s yummilicious… I dislike butter but somehow I have a liking for butter puddings. Here’s a photo of Uncle Bernard and Luffs! We also took some crazy group photos after the dinner but I cannot post them here because I have yet to receive the photos. So, that’s all for now. Shall end off this post with a photo of Luffs and myself. Yes, I know we always have the same pose in our photos. No choice, we took the photos ourselves. Haha... Friday, April 24, 2009 @ 10:40 PM

Sixty Uses Of Salt Although you may not realize it, simple table salt has a great number of uses other than simply seasoning your food. The following list will give you sixty uses of salt, many of which you probably didn't realize :- * Try and let me know if all of them are true * [1] If you drop a whole egg on the floor, pour salt all over the egg, let it sit for awhile, then use dustpan, the egg will come right up, without all that mess. [2] Soak stained hankies in salt water before washing. [3] Sprinkle salt on your shelves to keep ants away. [4] Soak fish in salt water before decaling; the scales will come off easier. [5] Put a few grains of rice in your saltshaker for easier pouring. [6] Add salt to green salads to prevent wilting. [7] Test the freshness of eggs in a cup of salt water; fresh eggs sink; bad ones float. [8] Add a little salt to your boiling water when cooking eggs; a cracked egg will stay in its shell this way. [9] A tiny pinch of salt with egg whites makes them beat up fluffier. [10] Soak wrinkled apples in a mildly salted water solution to perk them up. [11] Rub salt on your pancake griddle and your flapjacks won't stick. [12] Soak toothbrushes in salt water before you first use them; they will last longer. [13] Use salt to clean your discolored coffee pot. [14] Mix salt with turpentine to whiten you bathtub and toilet bowl. [15] Soak your nuts in salt brine overnight and they will crack out of their shells whole. Just tap the end of the shell with a hammer to break it open easily. [16] Boil clothes pins in salt water before using them and they will last longer. [17] Clean brass, copper and pewter with paste made of salt and vinegar, thickened with flour. [18] Add a little salt to the water your cut flowers will stand in for a longer life. [19] Pour a mound of salt on an ink spot on your carpet; let the salt soak up the stain. [20] Clean your iron by rubbing some salt on the damp cloth on the ironing surface. [21] Adding a little salt to the water when cooking foods in a double boiler will make the food cook faster. [22] Use a mixture of salt and lemon juice to clean piano keys. [23] To fill plaster holes in your walls, use equal parts of salt and starch, with just enough water to make stiff putty. [24] Rinse a sore eye with a little salt water. [25] Mildly salted water makes an effective mouthwash. Use it hot for a sore throat gargle. [26] Dry salt sprinkled on your toothbrush makes a good tooth polisher. [27] Use salt for killing weeds in your lawn. [28] Eliminate excess suds with a sprinkle of salt. [29] A dash of salt in warm milk makes a more relaxing beverage. [30] Before using new glasses, soak them in warm salty water for a while. [31] A dash of salt enhances the taste of tea. [32] Salt improves the taste of cooking apples. [33] Soak your clothesline in salt water to prevent your clothes from freezing to the line; likewise, use salt in your final rinse to prevent the clothes from freezing. [34] Rub any wicker furniture you may have with salt water to prevent yellowing. [35] Freshen sponges by soaking them in salt water. [36] Add raw potatoes to stews and soups that are too salty. [37] Soak enamel pans in salt water overnight and boil salt water in them the next day to remove burned-on stains. [38] Clean your greens in salt water for easier removal of dirt. [39] Gelatin sets more quickly when a dash of salt is added. [40] Fruits put in mildly salted water after peeling will not discolor. [41] Fabric colors hold fast in salty water wash. [42] Milk stays fresh longer when a little salt is added. [43] Use equal parts of salt and soda for brushing your teeth. [44] Sprinkle salt in your oven before scrubbing clean. [45] Soaked discolored glass in a salt and vinegar solution to remove stains. [46] Clean greasy pans with a paper towel and salt. [47] Salty water boils faster when cooking eggs. [48] Add a pinch of salt to whipping cream to make it whip more quickly. [49] Sprinkle salt in milk-scorched pans to remove odour. [50] A dash of salt improves the taste of coffee. [51] Boil mismatched hose in salty water and they will come out matched. [52] Salt and soda will sweeten the odor of your refrigerator. [53] Cover wine-stained fabric with salt; rinse in cool water later [54] Remove offensive odours from stove with salt and cinnamon. [55] A pinch of salt improves the flavor of cocoa. [56] To remove grease stains in clothing, mix one part salt to four parts alcohol. [57] Salt and lemon juice removes mildew. [58] Sprinkle salt between sidewalk bricks where you don't want grass growing. [59] Polish your old kerosene lamp with salt for a brighter look. Remove odors from sink drainpipes with a strong, hot solution of salt water. [60] If a pie bubbles over in your oven, put a handful of salt on top of the spilled juice. The mess won't smell and will bake into a dry, light crust which will wipe off easily when the oven has cooled. Monday, April 20, 2009 @ 11:30 PM

I Am A Hi Sshou Ambassador!
19.04.09 - Post edited as per Luffs' request.
---------------------- We had our 1st Muu Clan’s Annual General Meeting (AGM)! Jie Jie waited for many months before she could try out the Japanese buffet at Hi Sshou Japanese Restaurant. But sad to say, the standard of their food has dropped because of the change in management.Sob, there goes one cheap and nice Japanese buffet! The evening was well-spent with much laughter over the table even though the food was not as awesome as the company. I did not take any food photos this time round because the food did not look as appetizing as the previous time I was there. Total damage was over $100, so I was given the Hi Sshou Privilege Card. Hooray! I am truly a Hi Sshou Ambassador!
Below are some photos we took without Luffs and Harald.
Each of us were given a 2009 organiser (the black book on the table) by Hi Sshou. We used it to record our minutes for the so-called AGM. *grinz*
And now, let me present to you the members of the Muu Clan!

Mariners' Corner Restaurant We had our Tan family dinner at Mariners' Corner Restaurant & Steakhouse! EntranceMenu InteriorOld style steak houses are slowly disappearing and many such restaurants have revamped themselves to catch up with modern times. Mariners' Corner Restaurant & Steakhouse, which has been around since 1984, is one such restaurant which still hangs on to a part of history. Mariners' Corner Restaurant & Steakhouse 120 Cantonment Road #01-02 Maritime House Tel: 6220 6572 / 6224 9928 Interesting! They serve a-la-cart courses or you can choose to complete your meal with a top-up of $3.80. Set Meal Soup Salad Main Course Dessert / Ice Cream Coffee / Tea By the way, the salad is free flow so you can fill your tummy up if you are hungry. Salad Bar Salad The soup of the day was cream of carrot and each of us ordered a different main course each with 2 side dishes - Oysters and buffalo wings! The oysters were really fresh and chilled, but the wings today were on the slightly saltier side. Cream of Carrot + Garlic BreadOysters + Buffalo WingsClose-Up of Oyster I so ♥ their potato salad served at the salad bar… Yummi! Jie Jie will like it too. * Pardon me for the lousily taken photos. Should have used flash! * Oxtail Stew With Rice / PotatoNZ RibeyeNZ TenderloinBoneless Chicken Leg With Sausage My portion was so big that I needed to 'distribute' them to Luffs, Kenny and Mummy Doris! Hahaha... This might not be the best place to enjoy a good quality dinner but it sure makes you feel at home and prices are considerably cheap for what you get. The staff are nice and friendly too especially Uncle Raymond. Moreover, there is free parking from 6pm onwards for weekdays and 11am on weekends and public holidays! Monday, April 13, 2009 @ 11:34 PM
